In its 4th year partnering with NCKU and Taiwan’s Ministry of Education through SPOSAD, RMIT strengthens global design connections and expands international partnerships.

SPOSAD & RMIT

RMIT Industrial Design proudly continues its fourth consecutive collaboration in 2025 with NCKU and Taiwan’s Ministry of Education through the Scholarship Program for Overseas Study in Arts and Design (SPOSAD). Since its launch in 2005, SPOSAD has identified and supported over 400 high‑potential students across disciplines such as Digital Media/Animation, Visual Communication, Product Design, Architecture & Landscape, and Fashion Design.

In the 2020–2021 cycle, 27 students were selected to study or intern abroad at 22 top-tier institutions across nine countries, including the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Denmark, and Japan.

In 2023, 22 recipients participated, collaborating with 19 global host institutions across seven countries - notably the US, Australia, Canada, UK, France, Netherlands, Denmark, and Japan.

Through this program, RMIT Industrial Design shares its design education philosophy and pedagogy, offering Taiwanese students pathways into global design networks and professional disciplines. In 2025, Dr Stuart McFarlane represented RMIT as mentor and judge, guiding emerging design talent through the rigorous SPOSAD selection process and helping facilitate cross-cultural learning and collaboration.

This partnership aligns with RMIT’s strategic commitment to advancing design excellence internationally, expanding our global footprint, and nurturing future leaders in aesthetics, innovation, and culturally informed design.
